Learning Log 7

From this performance Romeo and Juliet, I really understand the meaning of teamwork. This is because when we were having our final rehearsal, one of our member was not around. When we try to contact her, her friend picked up the phone and act as if she don't know who that group member was. Everyone in my group fret out. We decided to seek help for our teacher, Mrs Woo. Mrs Woo gave us very good advise and in the end, we manage to find her with the help of my Mr Lim and Mrs Woo. Although we had some errors during the real performance, we manage to overcome it. Some of my group members forgotten their lines but with the help of the rest of the group members, we manage to help him complete his lines. I hope that the budget given should be $200. This is because we do not have enough money to buy our stuff. I think that this performance should be given at the start of the year so that we can have more time to prepare. I think that the percentage of the performance should weigh as much as the test paper. This is because if a student fail his/her performance, she can still pull up his/her mark with the test paper.

Learning Log 6

After having two to three lessons on literary devices, I've learnt that literary devices could be use to make poem or prose sounds better. It can make a poem or prose sounds more interesting because, it helps to describe a poem or prose and it allows us to imagine how the scene is like. Although we have learnt literary devices during secondary one, but I still find that literary devices are hard to learn as there are a lot of different types of devices and they all have different uses. This can confuse me every time. When I look at a passage, I do not know how to find incomplete sentence. I also do not know how to write a comment for the literary devices. :( I hope that you can give us a template on how to write a comment. :) I have also learnt that a poem is written by a persona and a prose is written by an author. A prose is actually an essay or a short story. I hope that we can have more exercises on literary devices.

Learning Log 5

After reading the “diver” worksheet, I have learnt that unseen poem or prose passage is simply one that we have not seen before. Sometimes we may have seen it before but we do not have the chance to work on it. To unlock the meaning of a poem, we need to add in our personal feelings and emotions while reading. The first step and the third step on reading the unseen poem and the unseen prose are similar. The difference in the second step is that the unseen poem needs us to add in imaginations and feelings when reading it more slowly. But the second step of the prose passage is to get a better understanding of the characters and see how they are related to one another. We also need to observe the mood and settings. I have also found out that we are allowed to take down our points at the side of the poem. There are two techniques that can help us organize our answers. They are the IBC model and the PEEL model. In the IBC model, the introduction comes first, followed by the body and lastly a conclusion. In the PEEL model, the point comes first followed by the explanation or the elaboration and the evidence and lastly the link. :) I hope that you will teach us more about this on the next lesson.

Learning Log 4

"When shall we three meet again
In thunder, lightning or in rain"
Whenever I see this line, I will always remember the act on the three witches I had done with Shaarkirah and Syazana. The performance we had done was not up to my expectations. I had said so because I did not act out with the witch voice and I was the only one wearing the witch hat. My others group member did not wear the hat because when they wore the hat, it drop off their head immediately. The sound effects were also played at the wrong time. Maybe it is because we were talking to fast. My team members were also too nervous and they had forgotten to take the props and the things they needed. The only thing that I think our group had did it perfectly was the props. Although we met with difficulty such as our schdules did not match, but we still managed to finish everything on time. As our plan was to wear a black clothes inside and the trash bag outside, we were shock because Mrs Woo was angry at us for wearing a trash bag or our PE t-shirts. :0 We immediately change our plan. Although some of the group members wore trash bag as their clothes because they do not have black clothes. I like the performance by Jie Ling the most because she was always soft spoken and shy in class but on the day of the performance, she dared to act out the witch voice and at the same time, she was also loud. I wish I could be like her when acting Romeo aand Juliet in the next semester. I think that the person with the best make-up is Maryam because her face was really like the witch. I like the vampire teeth which she drew right under her lips. The best props that I like is the props in Izzul's group. They had the pot filled with green liquid and had eyeballs floating on them and it made the act look so creepy. I think that the longest time for the props to be put up is our group. We took the longest time as we needed to prepare the dry ice and it is also part of our performance. We were trying to get the background misty and cloudy but unfortunately,it failed. :( I hope that all this problems will not appear when acting out Romeo and Juliet. :)

Learning Log 3
Dear Mrs. Woo,
Prediction… The word prediction always seems to ring in my mind but never had I once believe in it as I believed that our future is unpredictable and also partially because we can change the prediction by working hard and do things the other way round. For example, Raymond’s mother had predicted that he would not get ‘A’s but once he worked hard, he can still get ‘A’s if he worked hard enough. The word prediction simply means forecast or prophesy.
I have learnt that some predict are just myth, while some are true. Although there are fortune tellers in this world but some of them are just out to cheat people’s money just like our classmate Chor Mui’s grandmother. Some fortune tellers predicted that the world will end in year 2012. But we could not prove it until the future arrives. :(
I have also learnt that predictions could be quite misleading at times. Just like our classmate, Shaarkirah, when her mother was conceiving here, her mother predicted that she was a boy and decided to name her Shakir but when she was given birth, her mother then found out that she was a girl and so her name was named Shaarkirah. :)
Today we were asked to share the predictions we had collected from our class. Most of us made up those predictions as we did not encounter any of those before. But almost half the class had those prediction that were true and the other half of the class had their prediction made out. I think that Mrs. Woo had planned this lesson because t has something to do with macbeth. I think this is a good idea as we can learn more about prediction and macbeth at one go. :)
Last but not least, I hope that the following lessons will get more fun. :)

Lye Yue Ning(9)

Learning Log 2

The lesson conducted on 1st February 2011 was very interesting. I had learnt that superstitions are passed down by our ancestors. As time passes, people starts to add more superstitions thus there is more superstitions now compared to the past. I will now show you some examples of superstitions to let you understand it better. They are, do not sweep the floor during Chinese New Year as good luck will be swept away and do not walk under the ladder. I have also learnt how to speak in a witch voice. It may seem very easy as Mrs. Woo was doing it but when I was asked to try, it was very hard. I think that Maryam did the best because her voice was very high pitch and I felt that her voice was the closest to Mrs. Woo’s. I think that this lesson was much more fun compared to other lessons. I hope to have this type of lessons in the future.

Learning Log 1

In these four lessons, I had learnt that a Cinquain poem is a poem that consist 5 lines. Now, I am going to explain what are we supposed to write in a Cinquain. In the first line, we are supposed to write the title of the poem. In the second line, we are supposed to write two adjectives. In the third line, we are supposed to write 3 verbs. In the forth line, we are supposed to write a four word phrase. In the fifth line, we are supposed to write a word that describes the title. I prefer to do all this in group work because it can allow us to bond with each other and it can also allow us to know what we are thinking about.I think that we can improve if we work faster.
